If you’re like me, you like to hear the Windows startup sound when you turn on your computer. There’s nothing like opening a computer and hearing that glorious Windows startup sound. However, for some reason, in Windows 8, the startup sound doesn’t play, even though I checked the box that says “Play Windows startup sound” in the Sound settings. I noticed that the computer boots up fast, but didn’t give me any options to access the boot menu.
So after a little digging, I discovered that in order to have the Windows startup play, you have to disable faster booting. To do that, open your power settings (Control Panel -> Power Options->System Settings), and uncheck “Turn on fast startup (recommended)”. Next time you shut down and restart, your computer will boot up slower, but at least you’ll be able to hear that glorious startup sound. I’m using Windows 8 Pro, though I’m sure it’ll work in the regular edition of Windows 8.
